A Brief Biography

Born in a hospital in the autumn on 1976. Went to school for a number of years and left with a number of GCSE's and 'A' levels. Went to university for a number more years and left with a first class BSc in computer science and a hangover. Went to work in telecomms and still there today. Went to the local Indian restaurant and left with a Chicken Balti and Mushroom Rice.

Technological Competences

I specialise in development using ANSI C++, Java J2EE, SQL, perl and PHP. I have experience in Visual C++, C#/.NET (see the software available for download from this site), Ada, C-shell, Bourne Shell and Korn Shell scripting. I am also well versed in web technologies including HTML, XML, XSLT and JavaScript. I have worked on high-availability network management software in C++ and Java for the past five years and have experience in all major network management protocols (CMIP, SNMP, TL1, QD2) and both TCP/IP and OSI networking. I am current working on management of VLAN and MPLS ethernet switching over SDH bearers. I currently run and administrate my own web server based on Red Hat Linux, Apache 2, PHP 5 and PostgreSQL.

Hobbies

I enjoy photography immensely and have been snapping pics since I got my first instamatic camera at the age of about 11. I am also starting to move into video but find this difficult due to 2004's miserable summer weather. I enjoy playing table tennis and badminton but rarely play due to constant humiliating defeats.

Things I Hate

<rant> I intensely dislike ubiquitous advertising and actively avoid it whenever possible. This is particularly true of Disney's policy of marketing their films in other people's commercials. I also despise remakes of classic films and music 'created' by no-talent hacks trying to make a name for themselves, leeching off the work of others. </rant>
